Where would we have been this year without TV? I know I definitely would’ve been super bored for the entirety of lockdown! TV shows are a great escape from reality in the best of times, but during a pandemic, they’re a great distraction, a way to pass the time, and a way to try and escape groundhog day.
Despite the terrible year 2020 was, we did get a lot of great TV. Normal People, The Mandalorian, The Queen’s Gambit… Need I go on! And 2021 is looking pretty good for TV, with many fan favorites returning and some highly anticipated new series being released.

WandaVision
After Avengers Endgame’s events, WandaVision follows Scarlet Witch and Vision, who appear to be stuck in a 1950s sitcom… but things are not all that they seem. WandaVision is now streaming on Disney Plus and has been receiving excellent reviews from fans. If you’re a fan of Easter eggs, then you will love WandaVision.
I’ve been watching WandaVision as it airs, and I absolutely love it. I have to admit that I wasn’t the biggest fan of Wanda or Vision. Still, since their TV show, Wanda has become one of my favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. It’s super clear that she is the most powerful avenger, and we have all been sleeping on her.
The episodes will keep you engrossed throughout. In those first few episodes where nothing is explained, you really do get that feeling that something isn’t quite right, but you don’t know what. It’s also rather heartbreaking when you think about it!
American Horror Story S10
After delays due to COVID, AHS Season 10 is due to return to our screens sometime in 2021. Ryan Murphy hasn’t given much away yet. Still, this season will see Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters’s return, which I definitely missed last season. Macaulay Culkin is also set to be in this season.
While this season’s theme has been kept quiet as usual, creator Ryan Murphy has posted several hints on his Instagram, which leads fans to believe that this season could be about vampires, mermaids, or sirens.

Sex Education S3
Netflix’s hit original series is expected to return to our screens sometime in 2021. After production delays, filming is scheduled to end in February. I’ve got to say, this has to be one of the shows I’m most excited about. It’s one of my favorite shows with one of the most diverse casts I’ve ever seen!
This show is definitely just what I need; it will be the perfect escape from today’s current world with colorful sets and fun characters.
Conversations With Friends
From the brilliant mind that bought us, Normal People, Sally Rooney’s Conversations with Friends is rumored to be coming to our screens in 2021. Although, nothing is confirmed yet, not even a cast!
Whether we get CwF this year or not, I’m still incredibly excited about this adaptation. I loved reading every minute of Conversations with Friends and can’t wait to see it adapted!
And you know it will be good as director Lenny Abrahamson who directed Normal People, is back, as well as writer Alice Birch.

Handmaid's Tale
Arguably one of the best book-to-tv adaptations of all time, The Handmaid’s Tale is back in 2021. While we’re long past the original book’s events, The Handmaid’s Tale TV series has done so well in creating the same atmosphere as the book and has brilliantly expanded the world of Gilead.
The Handmaid’s Tale is one of my favorites, so I know I will be glued to my TV when it’s back on screens!
The Pembrokeshire Murders
Who doesn’t love a true-crime drama? I know I do! Starring Beauty and the Beast’s Luke Evans, The Pembrokeshire Murders will cover Helen and Richard Thomas and Gwenda and Peter Dixon’s killings in 1985 and 1989.
The drama is going to be based on the book written by senior investigating officer Steve Wilkins. I’m a huge fan of crime dramas, so I will definitely be tuning in to catch up on this!

It's a Sin
Starring Olly Alexander and Neil Patrick Harris, It’s a Sin is about three young gay men in London in 1981 during the HIV/AIDS crisis.
It’s a Sin is already streaming and has received critical acclaim. It’s been applauded for its emotional scenes, the depiction of AIDS, and the cast’s performances.
This is next on my watch list, and from what I’ve seen, it’s definitely worth the hype.
Stranger Things S4
Okay, okay. Nothing has been officially confirmed when Season 4 will be returning to Netflix, but we can guess that a 2021 release could be on the cards.
I’m anxiously waiting to know what happened to Hopper and what my favorite band of teenagers will be up to next!

Marvel's Loki
Everyone’s favorite villain is getting his own TV show! With Tom Hiddleston reprising his role, Loki takes place after the events of Endgame. After stealing the Tesseract, Loki finds himself brought to the Time Variance Authority and ends up in his own crime thriller.
The trailer is pretty vague and doesn’t give much away, but the premise certainly has me interested, and I will be tuning in to watch in May.
Shadow and Bone
I know a lot of Bookstagrammers who are going to be excited about this! Based on the titular Shadow and Bone trilogy and Six of Crows duology, this fantasy drama series follows a young woman with newfound powers who has to try and save her home from a power source.
It’s set to hit our screens in April and has Freddy Carter, Ben Barnes, and Jessie Mei Li in the cast.

Nine Perfect Strangers
For fans of Big Little Lies, you are going to love this! Another of Liane Moriarty’s novels to be adapted by Nicole Kidman and David E. Kelley, Nine Perfect Strangers, follows nine city dwellers who spend 10 days at a boutique health wellness resort.
Kidman will be starring as the resort manager Masha and stars Melissa McCarthy, Luke Evans, and Michael Shannon.
Ms. Marvel
Damn, Marvel and Disney did not come to play with their series this year! Ms. Marvel is being released on Disney Plus this year and stars Iman Vellani as a Pakistani-American teenager who goes from writing fanfiction about Captain Marvel to becoming a superhero herself.
We love representation, and Ms. Marvel is set to have that. Executively produced by Kevin Feige, Bisha K. Ali, Sana Amanat, Adil El Arbi, and Bilall Fallah, I am SO excited for this!

Gossip Girl Reboot
Hello, Upper East Siders! Gossip Girl is set to get a reboot this year that will include a more inclusive cast that more accurately reflects New York City’s dynamic, which is something the original series was definitely lacking.
All of the reimagining actors are unknown ones. Still, Kristen Bell will be back to do her iconic Gossip Girl narration XOXO.
Dickinson S2
Hailee Steinfeld’s much loved Dickinson will be back for season two this year! This season will see Emily torn between a new romance or pursuing her passion of being a poet. I think we all know which one we want her to choose!

My Name is Lizzie
This true-crime drama looks at officer Lizzie Jones and how she goes undercover to become sexual bait for their prime suspect of the murder of Rachel Nickell in 1992.
Starring Niamh Algar as the titular character, the series is set to be released on channel 4. Still, no air date has been mentioned yet.
Either way, I’m excited about this one!
Superman and Lois
You would’ve thought that there would already be a Superman series in the CW ‘Arrow-verse’ but apparently not!
Starring Tyler Hoechlin from Teen Wolf and Bitsie Tulloch, Superman and Lois are now parents! The show follows the iconic duo dealing with being working parents in today’s society.
I think this has the potential to be pretty good if it is done right! It’s coming out on February 23, and I’ll be tuning in for the first episode.

The Book of Boba Fett
If The Mandalorian is anything to go by, Then The Book of Boba Fett is set to be totally binge-worthy!
The Book of Boba Fett is set to be released in December 2021 and will star Temuera Morrison and Boba Fett, and Ming-Na Wen. Both were seen in The Mandalorian, and I really enjoyed their characters, so I know I will love this!
Firefly Lane
Firefly Lane has already been released on Netflix and has received positive reviews. The story follows two best friends over many years. It’s undoubtedly meant to be heartwarming during a time when we are all separated from our friends and loved ones. I think this one is going to be unique.

YOU S3
Our favorite psychopath is back for season 3! Set to be a season full of twists and turns, we are all dying to know who Joe’s neighbor is and what Love has to say about his new fascination.
